Feeding Guidelines
A rabbit’s diet should be hay-based and fiber-focused, with treats given sparingly.
Daily Diet Basics:
- Unlimited hay (timothy, orchard, meadow, or other grass hays)
- Fresh water available at all times
- Leafy greens daily (introduced slowly)
Treat Guidelines
- Treats should make up no more than 5% of a rabbit’s total diet
- Offer treats 1–3 times per week, depending on size, age, and sensitivity
- Always serve treats in small portions
- Introduce any new treat slowly and monitor for changes in stool, appetite, or behavior
Age Recommendations
- Rabbits under 6 months: Hay and pellets only. Treats are not recommended while the digestive system is still developing.
- Adult rabbits (6+ months): Treats may be introduced gradually and fed in moderation.
Special Situations
- Pregnant or nursing rabbits, rabbits with GI sensitivity, or rabbits with medical conditions should receive treats only with veterinarian guidance.
